IRMan

Infrared man (Irman) is a small device that allows you to control your PC with the remote from your TV, VCR, CD or Stereo.

Irman can receive the infrared signals transmitted by all sorts of remotes. It converts these signals to computer commands understood by software in your PC. This software is integrated into the programs listed on the software page. Irman has been tested with over 40 different brands of remotes, they all work.

Irman is supported by software for Windows 9x/ME, NT, Windows 2000 and XP and can be used with third-party software under Linux and Risc OS.

On the left you can see an Irman with its infrared receiver at the front. This receiver is very sensitive, it can reach up to 10 m (33 ft.) and has a 80 degree angle of sight. On the back you see a cable coming out, it connects to a serial port on your PC (9 pins). Irman measures 7.6x6.2x2.5 cm. (3x2.4x1 inch.) and has a 1.5 meter (5 ft.) serial cable. It doesn't need any external power as it uses some of the serial port wires.

Using your IRMan with HIP

To use IrMan with HIP, you must download the file HIPIrMan.dll to your HIP Program directory (available in the HIP Downloads page). Instructions for setting the device up may be found in the HIP Help file in the Tutorials section called Setting up a COM Interface

Note: You do NOT need to install the software supplied with the device.

Using your IRMan with the URC5020

Select a device on your URC that is NOT likely to be used by any existing equipment and use the as the basis to any command learning such as the Intervision codes (21233). (Note: not all buttons are used by all devices).  When using HIP with IRMan, you can have multiple devices that perform the same function.

Testing your IRMan with ComCommander

To check you IRMan is working properly, you can download the COMCommander software from the Software Utilities page.

Note: You cannot use ComCommander when HIP is running.

When you start ComCommander, after selecting the correct COM port, enter the following values:

  • Baud Rate: 9600
  • Data Bits: 8
  • Stop Bits: 1
  • Parity: None
  • Flow Control: None

and Press Enter.

Now, on your keyboard type: IR

and you should see OK in the lower pane.

Now whenever you press an IR Key the value will be displayed.
